Students from the Period 4 First Nations, Métis and Inuit Studies class want to raise awareness about an issue that is usually overlooked in Canada. During the 19th and 20th centuries, thousands of Aboriginal children were sent to residential schools for the majority of their childhood. These schools were focused on stripping them of their culture and conforming them to European standards. Most students were forced to attend these schools, and most experienced traumatic abuses in these schools; like physical, psychological and sexual assault; neglect; and starvation; which have had long lasting and intergenerational effects.

On September 30th, many schools and communities across Canada are having an "Orange Shirt Day" to honour the victims of residential schools. This falls on the same day as our Terry Fox Run, so in addition to wearing our Terry Fox shirts, we encourage you to wear orange accessories that day.

We will also be be distributing orange paper shirts for you to sign to honour residential school survivors. We will decorate the atrium with them.
Attention all actors and theatre lovers.  It's time for Drama Club to begin.  If you enjoy Drama games, improvisation exercises and meeting new friends, this is the club for you.  We meet every Tuesday after school in the Drama room.  On Tuesday, September 29, we will be having a meeting for our Drama Club leaders only.  If you are currently enrolled in a Grade 10, 11or 12 Drama class and want to be a leader, show up to this meeting.  Grade 9's will be welcome to join the following week.  Stay tuned for further information.
