Girls SLO-pitch!

The girls played in their final game of the season yesterday in the swirling winds against championship contender Belle River.

The wind made it hard to see let alone play the game but the girls held in there with a few good hits and some great catches in the outfield.  The girls unfortunately ended up losing the game taking us out of playoff contention.

Player of the game goes to Autumn Mullins with two singles and some good plays at first base.   A special thanks to our two grade twelves, Emma "Be the Mat" Gagnon and Jess Spratt.

Congrats to all the girls on a fun season from coaches Couvion, Eckart and Arfiero.

Swossa track proved to have some tough competition but several Saints fought hard to move on to OFSAA regionals.  Congratulations to Hendrick Stam in high jump, Matt Demchuk in Javelin, Aaron Collins in Shot put, Taylor Meloche in triple jump, Meg Mooney in Steeplechase, Julia Santin in 100m, Liam Kiewitz and Anna Ulicny in the 400m, and 5 athletes in pole vault:  Madison Bardoel, Zeyad Saadi, Max St Pierre, Ben Byczynski and Jesse Devoglaere.  Congratulations!

Gale force winds, 0-0 tie after regulation, a red card and penalty shot in the first overtime half had the Lady Saints on the receiving end if a dramatic WECSSAA final.  Unfortunately the 1-0 score was in favour of the Villanova Wildcats and the senior girls soccer season has come to an end.  An unfortunate finish to a great year!  To the graduating players, Amanda Anger, Alayna Banks, Deanna Gillidini and Anna Ulicny, thank you for your dedication to the sport of soccer throughout your high school careers.  Your commitment as student/athletes does not go unnoticed, your leadership and love of the game was exemplary all season.  And to all the players, the score does not reflect your tenacious play and true grit, thank you for your efforts all season.  We will have a team meeting next week to close out the season and collect uniforms.  Grade 12's have an amazing prom night, be safe and have fun!
