On the weekend the senior girls basketball team captured the Consolation Championship in the SOSI basketball tournament in Hamilton. The tournament began with the Saints facing # 1 ranked St.Marys , a slow start and foul trouble saw the Saints fall behind by 12 early but battle tough the remainder of the game to lose 67-47 , Brielle Loebach had 19 points in the loss and Hannah Drkulec was outstanding on the glass and on defence against the talented squad . Maddy Bardoel performed a magical feat having her last second 3 point shot sit and stay on the rim. In game two fatigue got the best of the team losing 51-50 to Holy Cross Kingston. Elena Caldarelli knocked down a half court 3 point shot in defeat. Brielle Loebach with 17 and Claire Lamarre with 12 led the offensie. In the consolation final despite having only 5 senior players and 3 junior call ups the Lady Saints showed their character shooting the lights out and beating Blessed Trinity of Niagra 65-54 . Maddy Bardoel , Anna Ulicny , Brielle Loebach and Elena Caldarellli all hit double digits in the final. Juniors Grace Loebach 6 pts , Olivia Norris 5 points and Kristen Gore were huge in the win.
The Saints finish their Wecssa regular season this week playing at Kennedy on Tuesday and then in what should be a battle of two undefeated teams against Holy Name on Thursday at 4:00 in our own Carmelita Hall in what should be a great game to come and see.
