The athletes of the week come from boys hockey and junior girls volleyball.

Jenna Pellerito is a starter on the Junior girls volleyball team and has played with with consistancy the entire season.  Her serves kept the team in the game during the WECSSAA finals helping them to come back to win the final three sets and take the championship.

Mitchell Chittle defenceman for Saints Hockey team
Mitchell had the task to defend against Holy Name's first line and he did a great job keeping them off the scoreboard. He controlled the play whenever he was out there.

Yesterday your Lady Saints completed a thriller come from behind victory over Ursuline College.  Down 3 to 1 heading into the 3rd period, the girls turn up the tempo.  At the end of regulation time it was tied at 3, then at end of OT period 1 it was still tied.  It took a Amy Maitre wrist shot in that second over time period to clinch the first ever SWOSSA girls hockey title.  Your other goal scores were Danieka Dupuis, and a pair from Ellen Donaldson.  Vanessa Despenic came up with some clutch saves.  The girls move on to Ofssa next week.  Well done ladies.

There will be a brief but mandatory meeting at 12:15 for all girl hockey players in room 253.

There is a list outside room 253 for any grade 9 or 10 girl wanting to play in the junior girls hockey tournment in April.  Please sign up by the end of the week.  Goalies needed!

Senior Boys Basketball:

Last night, before a capacity crowd of 300, your Senior Saints earned sweet victory, outlasting a very strong Sarnia Northern Vikings team, 69 to 65 in overtime.  The Saints carried the play through most of the contest, and made the needed clutch plays down the strtech to claim their second consecutive SWOSSAA championship.  Anthony Zrvnar led the attack with 19 points and 15 rebounds, followed by Blake Ondricko, with 16, Matt Broderick wuth 15, and Ryan Kiss, with 9.  Mitch Zimmerman added 2 huge steals late to help finish the job.  Outstanding work, gents...we beam with pride over the great will, character,  and resilience you show on the floor.  A big thanks to all the fans, students, staff, and administration for their awesome support.  Onward to OFSAA next week in Windsor - stay tuned for game times and locations.
