Girls SLO-pitch!
The girls played a nail biter of a game yesterday on our home field against UMEI.
Thanks to some great hitting, highlighted by a homer by Julia Brusseau, the girls again jumped out to a quick lead with 9 runs in the first couple innings. Then things heated up, literally. UMEI came back to within two runs going into the final inning but the girls held it together and won the game with a final score of 17-16.
The final game of the season is tomorrow at Belle River. Go Saints!
Yesterday your Junior Girls' Soccer team played the second day of their WECSSAA tournament.
Our first game was against Villanova in which the girls dominated the play from start to finish winning 5-0 with goals from Sara Byrne, Chloe Crep, Alyssa Adoranti and 2 by Alexa Burks.
Our second game was against Riverside with multiple girls scoring 2 from Alexa Burks, Chloe Crep, Lauren Pupulin, Madi Desjardins, Hayleigh West and 2 from our defensive player Ashley Poulin. Great defensive play Rachel Schincariol, Claire Demars and an awesome corner kick by Madi Rozic. Winning the game 8-0
Our last game of the day against St.Joe's saw our Saints dominating again and wining 5-0 with goals by
Taylor Meloche, Madi Desjardins, Allie Levac, and 2 from Slyvia Pavelich. Great plays from Natalie Adam, and Mackenzie Demars to help the girls win
A special shout out to our goalies Jessica Kenney and Jillian Stratichik that guaranteed another shutout for the day. All in all, a great day and a total team effort. Great play girls. No practice tonight but we will be back at it tomorrow after school.
Any players interested in playing Sr. Boys football that did not play last year please see Mr. Ficon by the end of the week.
In an exciting semi final game at the University of Windsor yesterday the senior girls soccer team defeated the Holy Names Knights with a 1-0 victory. With no time left on the clock in the 2nd overtime Alyana Banks crossed a beautiful corner kick into the 6 yard box, Tiana Conflitti deflected it to the goalie and Emma Collins banged it home for the win! It was an outstanding team effort which propels the Saints into the WECSSAA finals tomorrow (Thursday May 18th) at 330pm at McHugh field. Shut out recorded by Abigail Daniel and Woman of the Match honours to Mariah Marentette. Awesome work Saints. Please meet in the big gym after school.
