The senior girls soccer team faced their biggest challenge last night against their rival Holy Names team. The lady saints scored first off a Carly Alfano free kick from twenty five yards out. She fired a rocket over their wall just under the crossbar. The girls dominated play in the first half with a couple of other good scoring chances. With 2 minutes left in the half Holy Names responded with a goal of their own off a cross from a ball that appeared to be out of bounds. The single official was unable to make the correct call. Following half the tempo of the game ramped up but it was our girls that managed to score the winner. Tina Di Carlo got behind the defense on the right wing on a beautiful ball sent by Briana Hogan and fired it in the top left corner of the goal with 12 minutes left in the game. Holy Names brought pressure but the girls were able to hold them off. This gives the girls first place in league play qualifying them with a bye to the WECSSAA championship game Thursday May 22.
The Saints track team has been busy with three track meets in the past week. At the traditional Kennedy relay meet, ALessia Mussio and Kyla Sovran finished an impressive 2nd and 3rd in the open girls 100m race and in the Senior boys javelin, Trevor Scarfone and Nathan Mcdonald were 3rd and 4th respectively. At the university of Windsor Lancer prep meet, the senior girls swept the 400m race led by Natalie Omahen who was second, Jessica Gaudette 3rd and Sarah Duic was 4th. And yesterday under cold, wet conditions, Natalie Omahen was 4th in the senior girls 800m and Jesse Devogelere was 3rd in the midget boys pole vault. The junior girls 4 x 100m team of Taylor Reaume, Rachel Luff, Hunter Gouin and Kyla Sovran was 2nd. Also finishing second was Jordan Lupas in junior boys pole vault and Brad Gyemi in senior boys pole vault. Congrats Saints!
