Last night at McHugh park the lady saints soccer team defended their WECSSAA title by defeating Holy Names in a shoot out. Marlee Hewiit scored for the saints in regulation which ended in a 1-1 tie and neither team scored in overtime. Although our girls had the majority of the play and far more scoring opportunities we found ourselves in a shootout situation. Holy Names started off the shootout with a goal which Hannah Drkulec responded to. Holy Names shot high and wide on their second shot. Our next shooter was Tina Di Carlo who also scored. Abigail Daniel made a great save on the third shooter for Holy Names and Daniela Valente came back with another goal so we were up 3-1. They scored on their fourth try but Briana Hogan finished them off by scoring on our 4th attempt. We were victorious with a 4-2 shootout victory.
Thanks to all staff and students who came out to support the team.
Next action is SWOSSAA next Friday against the winner of the Lambton/Kent region. No practice tonight. You have earned a night off. See you Monday.
