All track and field athletes are to meet in coach Garant's room immediately after school for a meeting regarding WECSAA.

Monday:  Obesity Outcomes - 27% of students in Ontario are overweight or obese.  Why is this an issue?
Excess weight puts youth at risk of developing a range of preventable—and potentially deadly—health problems, including type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, joint problems, and mental health issues. Increased obesity is why this generation of youth have a lower life expectancy than their parents' generation.

Tuesday:  Physical Activity Outcomes -
51% are meeting the National guidelines of 60 min/day of physical activity.
WHY THIS IS AN ISSUE?
Regular physical activity in youth develops cardiovascular fitness, strength, and bone density while reducing the risk of over 25 chronic conditions, including heart disease, stroke, hypertension, breast cancer, colon cancer, type-2 diabetes, and osteoporosis. The more physical activity, the better.

Wednesday:  Healthy Eating Outcomes -
3% of students are eating the recommended number of servings from all 4 food groups.
WHY THIS IS AN ISSUE Insufficient consumption of fruits and vegetables has been associated with increased risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, as well as decreased health-related quality of life. Fewer than 5% of COMPASS participants report consuming the recommended daily amount of fruits and vegetables.

Thursday:  Sedentary Behaviour Outcomes - Average total daily hours of recreational screen time: 6.2 hours/day and the Average time spent doing homework: 1.5 hours/day.
WHY THIS IS AN ISSUE? Research has shown that sedentary behaviours are associated with unhealthy body weight, decreased fitness, lower self-esteem, increased anti-social behaviour, and decreased academic achievement in youth.

Friday:  Bullying Outcomes - Among students in Ontario, within the last month:
13% have been verbally attacked
18% have been bullied
9% have taken part in bullying other students
5% have been victims of cyber-attacks
3% have been physically attacked
WHY THIS IS AN ISSUE?
Adolescents who have been bullied electronically are more likely to report detentions, suspensions, receiving a failing grade, carrying weapons, and skipping school.
Student-led initiatives in which inclusiveness and a positive school culture are promoted (including students speaking out when witnessing bullying) have been showing the most promise.

Attention all Graduating Grade 12's:
Catholic Advisory Council (PAC) scholarship applications are due this week in guidance, Friday May 5th by 2:00pm.

Today there will be a Leadership team meeting after school in the upstairs conference room.
